Bank Robber Rides Skateboard To Heists

MEXICO CITY — Mexico City police say they have arrested a would-be bandit who rode his skateboard to bank robbery attempts.

Police say Sergio Ledesma and his skateboard have been turned over to prosecutors after he allegedly attempted to rob two banks by whispering threats to tellers.

Police say the teller at the first bank simply acted as if he hadn’t heard Ledesma, who then skated off to a second bank.

The second teller told police Ledesma appeared to whisper a threat. So the teller set off a silent alarm, and counted out the money while the would-be robber waited patiently.

Police said Friday Ledesma was still waiting when they arrived and arrested him.

Student, Dies After Tweeting ‘Thank You God for Another Year Of Life’

It was Ariane Noelle Patterson’s 21st birthday, and she was grateful to be alive.

The Gardner-Webb University student took to her Twitter account on Jan. 17 and posted the message: “Thank you God for another year of life.”

Hours later, she collapsed during a religion class and was rushed to nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the Associated Press reports.

The senior at the North Carolina Christian college was originally from Delaware and majored in religious studies, the Gaston Gazette reports. She had recently obtained a work-study position managing multimedia for campus ministries.

The cause of her death is still under investigation.

The university released the following statement on its Facebook page:

We are deeply saddened and in shock by this monumental loss. We pray for Ariane’s family and friends during this difficult time, and hope they will somehow find peace in the midst of this tragedy. No words can truly express how we collectively feel as a university during this time.

While the school encouraged students to write memories of Patterson on its Facebook page, at least two classmates shared their thoughts on their student blogs.

One friend wrote:

I write songs, and when Ariane found out, we bonded because of this common love. She was a very talented rapper, and I had every intention of having her freestyle on the next thing I recorded (even though my music is far from hip-hop :) She was just that good.

Another peer acknowledged he had never met Patterson in person, but recalls her cheerful character:

Her presence on the quad and at certain events I attended was joyous and positive…I bet she got the greatest birthday present of all-time. To make it to heaven with our heavenly father.

A prayer service will be held at noon on Jan. 20 at the university’s Paul Porter Arena, WBTV reports.

Man Says Ghost Punched His Wife Not Him

There’s something spooky about this excuse.

Rather than say “The Devil made me do it,” a Wisconsin man arrested on domestic abuse charges told police that a ghost punched his wife, authorities said.

Police responded to the disturbance call at approximately 8 p.m., Sunday, according to a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s report obtained by The Smoking Gun. At the scene they found 41-year-old Michael West and his wife, who told cops that her husband twice attempted to strangle her and struck her in the face when she attempted to contact 911.

West told authorities that his wife sustained injuries as a result of several falls, The Northwestern reports. When an officer pressed the issue, West allegedly changed his alibi, opting instead for a supernatural excuse — “A ghost did it.”

“It must not have been Casper,” HyperVocal quips. “He’s way too friendly to do such a thing to a working woman with a drunk, abusive husband.”

West is charged with domestic abuse, strangulation, battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. He remains in custody in lieu of $1,000 bail.

How does bail work?

The process of bail is regulated by the State of California. A Judge within the county of arrest sets the bail amount. Once bail is set, a Bad Boys Bail Bonds Agent charges 10%. (The State of California regulates this fee. All Bail Bonds companies charge the same rate.) With payment and a cosigner that meets our qualifications, the bond is then posted, and the defendant is released.
